The area now known as Brisbane was inhabited before European colonization by the Australian aboriginal tribe ´´Turbal´´, whose ancestors originally migrated to the region through the Torres Strait. For these people, the area that would become Brisbane is known as Mian-jin, which means "place like a spike shape."





The Windmill, built by those condemned to grind grain in the late 1820s. La Moreton Bay was explored by John Oxley in 1823. The city was founded in 1824 by order of Lord Brisbane, who used to be appointed Governor of New South Wales (New South Wales) in 1821. Initially a penal colony was founded in present-day Redcliff area, Edenglassie, in the vicinity of a town called Moreton Bay. I used the prisoners to create infrastructure and clean up the camps, which boosted the economic development of the colony and facilitated the emigration of free settlers. In June 1859, he settled in the capital of the colony of Queensland, including Brisbane, receiving the title of city until 1902, when a score of city councils merged to create the city of Brisbane, the largest municipality in Australia.



During World War II, Brisbane played an important role in the Allied campaign, when the AMP building (now called Central MacArthur) was used as the general hall of General Douglas MacArthur's West Pacific theater of operations, the chief of the allied forces of the Pacific. Approximately 1,000,000 US troops passed through Australia during the war, with Brisbane being the main point of coordination for the Southwest Pacific. In 1942, Brisbane was the scene of a violent confrontation between American military personnel on the one hand and Australian military and civilians on the other, resulting in many women and various inheritances. This incident became known colloquially as the Battle of Brisbane.



Brisbane was home to the success of the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1988 International Exposition, with the theme "Leisure in Technology". These developments were accompanied by a scale of public spending, construction and development the like of which had not been seen before in the state of Queensland. At present it is the city with the highest demographic and economic growth in Australia.



Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia. It is the capital of the state of Queensland, in the northeast of the country and has approximately 2 million inhabitants (estimated in 2009). It is located east of the Great Dividing Range, south of the Taylor mountain range and very close to Moretón Bay. It is crossed by the Brisbane River, which has been dredged to facilitate the transit of boats. The most important television stations in the state of Queensland have their studios in Mount Cootha.



The Southbank sector, which is located on the banks of the Brisbane River, has been intensively renovated to support the 1988 International Exposition, moving from its industrial origins to a pleasant park of beautiful gardens, from where an artificial public park is also located. , restaurants and bars, recreational spaces and the maritime museum. With the construction of the Good Will Pedestrian Bridge, Southbank can be easily accessed from the city center in just a few minutes. The area is a favorite among Brisbane residents to celebrate family weekends.



The City of Brisbane has announced a development plan that considers the construction of additional pedestrian pits in order to make the city more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as to encourage physical activity.



Among the cultural places that stand out are the Brisbane Museum and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (better known in the city as ´´GoMA´´, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art), one of the largest galleries related to this type of art. across the Australian continent (contains a major Andy Warhol exhibition). Also a must see for tourists is the Conrad Treasury Casino, a historic building from the 19th century, where all kinds of activities are held, such as plays and concerts. The building also has a restaurant and bar.



They have headquarters in Brisbane for the main cultural entities of the region, such as the Queensland Ballet, the Queensland Opera House and the Queensland Theater Company.
