The Würzburg, Wurzburg or Vurzburg Palace is a German palace located in Wurzburg, a city located in the administrative region of the Lower Bavarian Strip.



The construction of the residence began under the command of Johann Philipp Franz de Schönborn in 1719 who died four years after the start of the work and thus never came to enjoy its conclusion. The order was received from Bishop Balthasar Neumann, who at that time was 33 years old. The construction, after the death of Johann Philipp Franz de Schönborn, was completed in the end of the year 1744 the brother of the late Friedrich Carl von Schönborn. At the interior level of the work, among others, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1750-53), Antonio Giuseppe Bossi and Johannes Zick participated.



Interior decoration went through three stages. The first is still under the command of Friedrich Carl. Under the command of his successor Carl Philipp von Greiffenklaus, the most famous paintings of the building are commissioned and completed. With the death of Greiffenklaus as manager, the Rococo stage is completed and the decoration is continued with Adam Friedrich of Seinsheim in a simpler style, called Style Louis XVI. Finally, the room known as "Ingelheimzimmer" (from 1776) and the so-called "Green Room" (from 1778) were decorated in a neoclassical style. This last work was carried out during a continuous period of 60 years.



The construction was carried out according to a single plan, a fact that is atypical for this type of construction. The plan arises from a synthesis made by Balthasar Neumann of the ideas and proposals of a series of architects: Johann Maximilian of Welsch, Philipp Christoph of Erthal, Robert de Cotte, Gabriel Germain Boffrand, Anselm Franz and Johann Lucas de Hildebrandt. Especially the latter exerted an enormous influence on the sketches and plans of the palace.
