In the book ´´ Father Raimundo Ordóñez Yáñez´´ by David Arenas del Río, there is the following reference on the origins of the town: ´´On August 6, 1905, he had placed the first stone of the parish church of the hamlet that most later it would be called Lourdes´´.

In a report rendered by Father Ordóñez Yáñez, in 1923, and whose original rests in the archives of the curia, he says that by then the region had 3,200 inhabitants, which seems somewhat exaggerated if it is known that today (1947 ) we do not exceed 6,500 inhabitants.

Be that as it may, the foundations of a new city were laid on that date. That church would be called the temple of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in homage to the Virgin that he loved so much. Today the college of young women serves as a chapel, directed and directed by the Dominican Tertiary Sisters.
