Departing from the center of Maceió, it is about 30 minutes by car. The trip takes you to the small district of Riacho Doce, on the north coast of Maceió, an ideal setting for those who do not have much time to travel, but do not give up a weekend of leisure - and of calm - in the surroundings of the capital.



With its dizzying green, the waters of the Riacho Doce sea form a set that, so beautiful, served as a setting and title for the romance lived by fisherman Nô and foreigner Edna, the characters of the work Riacho doce, by the Paraiban writer José Lins do Rego (1901-1957).



But the symbiosis in Riacho Doce is revealed even in the union between fishermen and boleiras. The men go to the sea, while the women take turns producing tapioca, beijus, kid's feet, manioc cakes and corn. Walking through the narrow streets of the neighborhood is, in a way, “savoring”, by smell, an infinity of delicacies. And if you ask for permission, the doors to the pastry shops will soon open. In the backyards are the flour houses, scenarios that demonstrate the ingenuity of the simple people: machines for grinding the cassava, the oven for baking the cakes. It is impressive to see the skill of the hands that scrape the coconut; women who do not seem to be bothered by the warmth of the oven when pulling out the “baked goods”; kid's feet, wrapped in banana leaves, “gifts” to eat.
